Momento Mori 3

Further playing with the momento mori series... back to a B&W version...

Object 1

Trying to find a balance between images of death and decay and more gentle reminders of the fragility of life ... I think these may work better as a separate series... most likely labelled as 'Object' ...

Momento Mori 2

Another experiment with my 'Momento Mori' series... my ideas are still evolving...

Whether these images work better as black and white or with some sepia toning is something I am still wrestling with ... in some ways the 'purer' B&W image reflects the notion of reminders of our imminent demise, while other 'toned' version carries a sense of antiquity and patination.

Momento Mori 1

Have started playing (again) with the many scans from my collection... not sure where I am going, but it is time to revisit this still unresolved aspect of work...
Momento Mori refers to the Latin phrase ' Remember you must die'... it has been a central motif for many artists as a device to remind people of their own mortality and fragility...
These images are based on the various objects that I have been collecting for decades that are sitting in various storage boxes in my studio.

River Red Gum Bark

Have been collecting some beautiful river red gum bark lately and scanning selected parts...
They seem to have taken on a life of their own and I can identify body parts, creatures and imaginary beings...
