Central Australia Trip_ Days 1 and 2

Off on a first time trip to the Central Australia regions of Alice Springs and Uluru...

Landed in Alice Springs before meeting with our tour group...
Being July, it was supposed to be typically around 16 degrees during the day and 1 to 2 degrees at night... when we landed in Alice Springs it was 28 degrees... a freak event, according to the locals...
Here are some pics from the first two days around the Alice Springs area ...

Alice Springs ... incredible river gums just minutes from the township in the (dry) Todd River riverbed ...

Olive Pink Botanic Gardens, Alice Springs ...

Old Telegraph Office, Alice Springs

The area just out of Alice Springs, on the road to Simpsons Gap, where Albert Namatjira painted some of his famous images ...

On the road to Simpsons Gap ...

Simpsons Gap ... part of the McDonnell Ranges ... a beautiful walk with a wonderful local aboriginal guide to show us the edible plants and learn about the history and importance of this place to the indigenous peoples (followed by a beautiful dinner under the stars with local produce) ...
